Help transform an everyday passage into a place that reflects Castle Rock’s creativity and character. The Wolfensberger Underpass Beautification Project envisions public art and complementary improvements at the Wolfensberger Road underpass.

Each day, residents and visitors travel through the Wolfensberger Road underpass between Prairie Hawk Drive and Park Street. This well-traveled route connects people to destinations throughout Castle Rock, but its concrete walls and worn medians offer little sense of the community’s creativity and character.

As the Town prepares to open the Castle Rock Sports Center and the Brickyard takes shape, there is an opportunity to make this passage a more welcoming part of the journey. The Wolfensberger Underpass Beautification Project envisions public art and complementary improvements that bring color, interest and a sense of place to an everyday route.

The Town’s Public Art Commission is developing the call for artists and exploring how improvements to the roadway medians could complement the artwork. The Foundation is building community support to help bring this vision to life—creating a warmer welcome for residents and visitors alike.

The Crystal Valley interchange is more than a connection to Interstate 25—it is a gateway to a growing part of Castle Rock.

A proposed sculpture in the interchange roundabout offers an opportunity to create a distinctive landmark, visible from Interstate 25, that welcomes residents and visitors as they leave the highway and provides a memorable impression as they head onto it.

Imagine a work of art that becomes a familiar marker on the journey home, sparks curiosity among passing travelers and reflects Castle Rock’s creativity and character.

As the surrounding community grows, this project would bring art into an everyday journey and give this new gateway a lasting sense of place.

The Foundation is building community support to help bring this vision to life. Funding is included in the proposed 2027 Town budget, with project approval by the Public Art Commission and Town Council still ahead.

Artwork selection is planned for 2027, with installation anticipated in late fall of that year.

Part scavenger hunt and part outdoor art exhibition, the program celebrates the imagination of young artists ages 13 and younger.

Created through a partnership between the Town’s Public Art Commission and Castle Rock Christian Academy, this playful experience encourages families to slow down, look closely and discover something new together, turning a walk through Downtown Castle Rock into a creative adventure.
