The Big Drive: A New Landmark for Castle Rock’s Heritage
A once-in-a-generation work of public art is coming to Castle Rock — and you can help make it happen.
In 2026, as Castle Rock celebrates America’s 250th anniversary and Colorado’s 150th, our community will unveil Big Drive: three monumental steel sculptures of a bull, a cow, and a calf by nationally renowned artists Don Kennell and Lisa Adler of DKLA Design.
Standing up to 20 feet wide and built of corten and galvanized steel, these striking figures will honor the rugged beauty, ranching legacy, and western spirit that shaped Castle Rock.
Big Drive will become a defining cultural landmark for our town — a place where families gather, visitors explore, and future generations connect with the story of Castle Rock.
And now, the Castle Rock Art and Culture Foundation is inviting the community to help fund this historic project.
Why Big Drive Matters
A tribute to who we are, where we come from, and what we value
Rock Park, home of Castle Rock’s beloved annual Cattle Drive, was chosen as the sculpture site because it embodies the heart of our western heritage. As people arrive for the event each year, the new sculptures will stand as a powerful symbol of the cattle drives, ranching families, and agricultural traditions that built this community.
More than public art, Big Drive is a permanent celebration of Castle Rock’s identity. It is designed to last for generations, weathering naturally in tones of rust, silver, and gray that echo the tools and textures of ranching life. It will welcome residents and visitors alike—anchoring our town’s story in a place everyone can experience.

The Funding Goal
Help us raise 100,000 dollars to bring Big Drive home
The total project cost is 210,000 dollars, funded primarily by the Town’s Public Art Fund. The Castle Rock Art and Culture Foundation is committed to raising at least 100,000 dollars — nearly half the project — to ensure this landmark is a true community collaboration.
Your support directly funds the creation, transportation, and installation of these extraordinary sculptures. Every donation, large or small, brings this legacy project one step closer to standing proudly in Rock Park.
